Deacon Ryan Sales, known for composing the I Thirst for You chaplet, is an engaging permanent deacon with a heart for marriage and family life. Before entering full-time ministry, he served about 25 years in public safety, most of it in law enforcement. Born in Canada and now living in Texas, Deacon Ryan devotes much of his ministry to preparing engaged couples for the Sacrament of Matrimony. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry at the University of St. Mary of the Lake, where his dissertation develops an evidence-based approach to marriage preparation, bringing together the wisdom of the Church and what research shows helps marriages thrive.

That same passion led him to create Avila, an app that accompanies Catholic couples through courtship and marriage discernment, helping them grow in faith, communication, and intentional love as they discern God’s call together.

Deacon Ryan continues to lead retreats and parish missions, speaking on the diaconate, balancing family and ministry, the Rosary, living the faith with fidelity to the teachings of the Church, and forming intentional prayer communities. He also shares his conversion story: how the Holy Spirit spoke (and continues to speak) through his wife, and how his first love was for Our Lady, who led him to her Son, Jesus. He enjoys praying many forms of the Rosary and different chaplets, and is always glad to share the I Thirst for You chaplet with the faithful.
